LLDPE Geomembrane

SIGMA LLDPE geomembrane is a smooth, flexible linear low density polyethylene liner produced to the GRI-GM17 standard. Extruded from high-quality polyethylene resin with carbon black, antioxidants and UV stabilizers, this LLDPE liner is impermeable, UV-resistant and far more flexible than HDPE, so it conforms to settlement, irregular subgrades and detailed shapes without cracking. Stocked from 0.50 mm (20 mil) to 3.0 mm (120 mil) — including the popular 40 mil LLDPE liner — it ships in welded rolls direct from our factory for solid waste landfill, waste containment, aquaculture and water treatment lining.

LLDPE Geomembrane

LLDPE geomembrane built to GRI-GM17

SIGMA LLDPE geomembrane is a smooth flexible geomembrane produced to the GRI-GM17 specification for linear low density polyethylene. Each roll is extruded from high-quality polyethylene resin compounded with carbon black, antioxidants and UV stabilizers, so the finished LLDPE liner is impermeable, UV-resistant and built for a long service life. Compared with traditional concrete and compacted clay, this LLDPE geomembrane is more cost-effective, safe and fast to deploy on site.

Why buyers choose this LLDPE liner

The defining advantage of an LLDPE liner is flexibility. With a minimum 800% elongation at break, the linear low density polyethylene sheet stretches and conforms to settlement, slopes and irregular subgrades that would crack a stiffer membrane — which is why it is specified for landfill caps and aggressive containment. It offers good physical and mechanical performance, high tear resistance, corrosion and ageing resistance, adaptability to high and low temperature, and is non-toxic for aquaculture and water treatment systems.

Thickness range, 40 mil LLDPE liner and where it is used

We supply the geomembrane from 0.50 mm (20 mil) up to 3.0 mm (120 mil). The 40 mil LLDPE liner (1.0 mm) is the most requested grade for pond, lagoon and canal lining, while heavier 60–80 mil LLDPE geomembrane handles landfill capping and secondary containment. Where the project needs the rigidity and stress-crack performance of high density polyethylene instead, see our HDPE geomembrane; for the full range and other surfaces, browse the geomembrane category, or use it as a pond liner for aquaculture and reservoirs.

How the LLDPE geomembrane is manufactured

Each LLDPE liner is extruded from high-quality linear low density polyethylene resin compounded with carbon black, antioxidants and UV stabilizers in proportional measure. The flat-die or blown extrusion process builds a uniform, void-free sheet with a maximum formulated density of 0.939 g/cm³, and the carbon black package (2.0–3.0%) is what gives the membrane its ultraviolet resistance and long service life. Because the resin is virgin and non-toxic, the same flexible geomembrane that lines a landfill cap is equally safe for aquaculture and potable-water works.

Installation and field welding

The LLDPE geomembrane is rolled out over a prepared, compacted subgrade and joined by hot-wedge (dual-track) welding, with extrusion welding used around pipe penetrations, corners and details. Finished seams are non-destructively tested by air-pressure or vacuum box. Because the linear low density polyethylene sheet is so pliable, it drapes into corners, sumps and settlement basins without the lift and stress a stiff sheet develops, and the perimeter is locked into an anchor trench. Fast, watertight seaming and easy transportation make the LLDPE liner quick to deploy on site.

Quality, standards and service

Every roll of our smooth LLDPE geomembrane is produced and tested to the GRI-GM17 standard, so break strength, elongation, tear, puncture and durability all meet or exceed the Table 1 requirements when checked by the designated ASTM methods. We confirm thickness grade, roll width and length against your order, and back each shipment with a manufacturer datasheet. Tell us the application, subgrade and expected deformation and we will recommend the right lldpe liner grade, then ship welded rolls direct from our factory.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between LLDPE and HDPE geomembrane?

LLDPE (linear low density polyethylene) is the flexible cousin of HDPE. Its formulated density is 0.939 g/cm³ or lower and it elongates at least 800% before break, so an LLDPE liner conforms to settlement, slopes and irregular subgrades that could crack a stiffer HDPE sheet. HDPE geomembrane is stiffer, denser (≥0.940 g/cm³) and has higher stress-crack and chemical resistance. Landfill caps and high-deformation zones often specify LLDPE; base liners and aggressive chemical containment often specify HDPE.

Is this LLDPE geomembrane made to GRI-GM17?

Yes. Every roll of our smooth LLDPE geomembrane is produced to the GRI-GM17 (Rev. 13) standard specification for linear low density polyethylene geomembranes, with break strength, elongation, tear, puncture and durability values that meet or exceed the Table 1 requirements when tested by the designated ASTM methods.

What thickness of LLDPE liner do I need?

For pond, lagoon and canal lining a 40 mil LLDPE liner (1.0 mm) is the common choice; landfill capping and secondary containment usually step up to 60–80 mil (1.5–2.0 mm) LLDPE geomembrane for extra puncture resistance. Tell us the application, subgrade and expected deformation and we will recommend a thickness.

How is LLDPE geomembrane installed and seamed?

Rolls are deployed over a prepared, compacted subgrade and joined with hot-wedge (dual-track) welding, with extrusion welding around details and penetrations. Seams are air-pressure or vacuum tested. Because the LLDPE liner is highly flexible it conforms readily to slopes, corners and settlement; anchor trenches secure the perimeter.

Is the LLDPE liner safe for aquaculture and water?

Yes. The geomembrane is made from non-toxic virgin polyethylene resin, so it is suitable for aquaculture ponds and water treatment systems, and it resists corrosion, ageing and a wide temperature range for a long service life.

How is LLDPE geomembrane priced?

Price depends mainly on thickness, surface (smooth or textured) and order quantity, plus current polyethylene resin cost. A 40 mil LLDPE liner is more economical per square metre than a 60–80 mil grade. Send us the thickness, surface and total area and we will quote a current factory price; container-load orders receive the best rate.

What is your minimum order quantity?

We supply both project quantities and smaller trial orders. Because the LLDPE geomembrane is produced and welded to order, the most cost-effective quantities are full-roll and container-load shipments. Tell us your required area and thickness and we will confirm the minimum order and roll sizes available.

What is the lead time and how is the LLDPE geomembrane shipped?

Lead time depends on thickness, quantity and current production load; stocked smooth grades ship faster than made-to-order textured or special widths. The geomembrane is supplied in welded rolls, palletised or as roll cargo, and shipped by sea in containers worldwide direct from our factory.
